Pep, our 2021 February Horse of the Month, is an eight-year-old thoroughbred chestnut mare who arrived at our sanctuary in July 2019. She was surrendered to us because her owner could no longer care for her due to the devastating drought in western NSW. On arrival, she was underweight and shy, but quickly thrived under the watchful eye of our manager. It wasn’t long before she joined the main herd in the big paddock and was readily welcomed by the Chestnut Mare Gang + Chance, our sole chestnut gelding. In fact, Chance was so taken with this elegant, somewhat aloof, girl that they have been inseparable ever since.
