Neglected, abused or abandoned horses: How to help

Horse Rescue Australia is required to adhere to the legal aspects of horse rescue and ownership. Unfortunately this means we are not legally able to direct owners to change the way they care for their horses or to seize horses, regardless of how poor the horse may be. We work alongside the authorities by taking in horses they have seized.

The Animal Welfare League or RSPCA in your state should be notified if you know that a horse is not being adequately cared for or has been abandoned,

Your local council should be notified if you find a horse loose on public land.

If you report a horse to the appropriate authorities please also let us know in the form below so that we can work them to ensure the best possible outcome for the wellbeing of the horse.
